Over twenty global FM’s denounce systematic violence in Sudan

(MENAFN) More than 20 countries on Monday issued a joint statement denouncing atrocities and violations of international humanitarian law in Sudan, expressing “deep alarm over reports of systematic violence against civilians.”

The statement highlighted the escalation of fighting following the fall of El-Fasher to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), as well as ongoing clashes across North Darfur and the Kordofan region. Signatories condemned “deliberate targeting of civilians, ethnically motivated mass killings, conflict-related sexual violence, starvation as a method of warfare, and obstruction of humanitarian access” as “abhorrent violations of international humanitarian law.”

“These acts, if substantiated, constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity under international law,” the ministers said, urging an immediate end to violence and insisting that “impunity must end and accountability must be upheld.”

The statement called on authorities to ensure unhindered humanitarian access for the World Food Programme (WFP), UNICEF, and other agencies, and urged all parties to respect international law. It also recommended a ceasefire and a three-month humanitarian truce, warning against any attempts to partition Sudan.

“Protection and justice for the Sudanese people is not only a legal obligation but also an urgent moral imperative,” the ministers said.
