Sudan Insecurity Drives Hundreds to Flee North Kordofan Towns
(MENAFN) Around 2,600 civilians have been newly displaced in Sudan’s North Kordofan state after worsening insecurity forced residents to flee the towns of Abu Haraz and Kazgil over a two-day period, according to reports from the International Organization for Migration.
The UN migration agency says the movement of people took place on April 29–30 as security conditions in the area deteriorated further.
Displaced families are reported to have sought refuge in the Sheikan district within North Kordofan, as stated by reports.
“The situation remains highly tense and volatile,” the IOM warned.
Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since April 2023, when fighting erupted between the national army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces over military integration issues. The war has since caused tens of thousands of deaths, displaced around 13 million people, and driven parts of the country toward famine conditions, contributing to what humanitarian organizations describe as one of the world’s most severe crises.
